Methods/Form A open
Fluid reasoning (Gf) screener
Assess is a free screener: 16 untimed figural items, about 15 minutes, no account and no email. At the end you see your band and the uncertainty around it, on screen, free.
Then the part the rest of this category leaves out. Fluid reasoning is one domain of four, so we name the three we did not measure and send you to a longer battery that does — free, untimed, and run as a norming study.
It starts on the next screen, at item 1, with nothing to sign up for and nothing to cancel. The scale is preliminary while the calibrated anchor items and the final scoring table are installed, and every band says so on screen.
§ 01
The swamp
The top results inflate every score. Some ask for 40 answers and then put the number behind a $1 trial that renews at $60 a month. Others have no psychometrics behind them at all. The community threads about this category read like fraud reports, and they are.
The number is held behind a payment
The band is free and on screen, whatever it says
A $1 trial that renews at $60 a month
One optional $19 purchase, once, no subscription
A flattering three-digit score
A band with its 95% confidence interval printed beside it
40 items and no psychometrics shown
16 items, and a methods page that states what is still provisional
Sells you more of itself
Hands you to a stricter battery it earns nothing from
§ 02
The sitting
Every item is figural: black on paper, language-free, culture-fair. They are drawn as vector graphics in code, so a form can be composed fresh rather than copied from a bank a taker has already seen. Each form is built to carry 4 retired anchor items already calibrated at Cogn-IQ; none are installed yet, which is exactly why every band is labelled preliminary today.
Item 7 of 16
§ 03
The honest part
16 figural items estimate fluid reasoning. That is one domain, and it certifies nothing. The other three are unmeasured here, and the only way to see a whole profile is a longer battery.
So the loudest thing on the result screen is not a purchase. It is a link out to the Cogn-IQ battery: free, untimed, and the place your sitting becomes data in an actual norming study. We earn nothing from that click, which is exactly why we can make it the main one.
§ 04
The lineage
Assess is the first 15 minutes of something older. Cogn-IQ runs an IRT-calibrated, CHC-aligned, untimed battery with more than 50,000 sittings recorded and an open-access research record. Its anchor items are what keep a free estimate defensible instead of flattering.
The methods page sets out how items are composed, what an anchor item is, how the scale is linked, what the interval means, and which sittings are excluded. Every number on it carries a range.

The price
The band is free. If you want the sitting written up properly, the Report is $19, paid once, after you already have your result. No subscription, no tiers, nothing to cancel. If it fails to arrive, we refund the $19 without being asked.
A 16-item screener estimate is not a clinical or certified IQ, and Assess will never describe it as one.
Delivered as a PDF by email, within minutes. Bought after the band, never before.
Fluid reasoning is one of four domains. The other three are free at Cogn-IQ.
